1. Clothing: Coordinate, Don’t Match
Pick a color palette (neutrals, earthy tones, or soft pastels work beautifully).
Avoid logos, neon colors, or busy patterns that distract from faces.
Add layers and textures (denim, knits, scarves) to bring depth.
Shoes matter too, clean and neutral is always safe.
2. Kids: Happy Kids, Happy Photos
Bring snacks and water for little energy boosts.
Schedule around nap times for younger children.
Pack a favorite toy or blanket for comfort (and maybe a cameo!).
Present it as a fun adventure, not a serious photo shoot.
3. Mindset: Relax and Have Fun
The best photos happen when you’re relaxed and playful.
Don’t stress if kids won’t “pose”, candid giggles and natural moments often make the most treasured images.
Think of it as quality family time captured forever.
4. Outdoor Sessions
The most flattering light happens at sunrise or sunset (golden hour).
Bring a spare layer in case the weather changes.
Bug spray is a good idea for summer evenings.
5. Studio Sessions
Arrive a little early so kids can get used to the space.
Bring a change of clothes for little ones.
Pack any personal props you’d love included in the shoot.
A little preparation goes a long way in making your family photos relaxed, natural, and fun. Want a handy 3-page printable guide to keep on your phone?
